Profile description

The Hon. Evelyn J. Laporte is a Justice of the Kings County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in the Second Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2015.
Her judicial career began in 2005 when she was designated to serve as a judge for the New York County Criminal Court by the Hon. Jonathan Lippman, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York. During that same year, Justice Laporte was also designated by Chief Administrative Judge Lippman to serve on the New York County Civil Court. Later, in 2014, she was designated to serve as an Acting Justice of the Kings County Supreme Court by the Hon. Lawrence K. Marks, who was serving as the Chief Administrative Judge at the time.
She remained in that capacity until her election to the same court the following year.
Justice Laporte graduated with a B.S. and master's degree in political science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She went on to earn a J.D. from Antioch School of Law in 1986.
Prior to joining the bench, Laporte had served as a Kings County assistant district attorney for twelve years.
She also worked as an attorney in private practice.
Justice Laporte was a past president of the National Hispanic Prosecutors Association.
She has been a guest speaker on the subjects of domestic violence and the U.S. Criminal Justice System. As such, she was chosen by the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division/OPDAT to assist in training prosecutors and law enforcement personnel in Chile and Honduras.
